Explanation:

Let the average salary of an worker be Rs. 's'.
∴ Average salary of a worker = s + 42,000
∴ Average salary of an officer = s + 42,000 + 78,000 = s + 120000

Now let the number of workers be 'w' and number of officers be 'o'.

⇒ Total salary = Salary of workers + Salary of Officers
⇒ (w + o) × (s + 42000) = w × s + o × (s + 120000)
⇒ ws + 42000s + os + 42000o = w × s + os + 120000o
⇒ 42000s + 42000o = 120000o
⇒ 42000s = 78000o
⇒ s/o = 78000/42000 = 39/21 = 13/7

∴ Percentage of officers in the office = 7/(7 + 13) × 100% = 35%

Hence, option (b).
