Answer the following questions based on the information given below.
‘Doobydoo’ is a word game where each player has to write a meaningful word on the board either horizontally or vertically. Except the first word every player has to include exactly one letter already present on the board as a part of the new word that they form.
The players each take turns and play one after the other in a predetermined pattern, which remains the same across all the rounds. The letters have a score of 1 point each, except for X and Z, which have a score of 3 points each and D, J, Q, U, V and W, which have a score of 2 points each.
The points scored by a player in a round are the sum of the scores of all the letters in the word formed by the player in that round. The player(s) with the maximum total score (across all the rounds) at the end of the game is(are) declared the winner(s) of the game.
4 friends – Akanksha, Ankita, Kajal and Rishabh are playing Doobydoo. The following diagram shows how the board looks after certain number of moves, at which point the game ended.
- Kajal played both the longest and the shortest word in the game.
- One of the persons played two words of equal length and of equal score.
- Ankita, who played the word with highest score, was the winner of the game.
- The total number of letters in the words formed by Ankita is the same as the total number of letters in the words formed by Rishabh.
- Exactly two of the four players have the same score at the end. Reamining 2 players have different scores.
Which of the following pairs of words were formed by Rishabh?
- (a)
ELEPHANT, PEN
- (b)
TRAVEL, QUEEN
- (c)
OBLIQ, NERVE
- (d)
Cannot be determined
Answer: Option B
Explanation :
We can make the following table for words, number of characters and score of each word.
Since there are 8 words, hence, each player would have written 2 words each.
From (1): Kajal wrote words ‘elephants’ and ‘pen’.
From (3): Ankita wrote ‘sizzle’.
From (2): One person wrote ‘obliq’ and ‘nerve’.
This person can be either Rishabh or Akanksha.
Ankita’s second word can be either ‘mango’, ‘queen’ or ‘travel’
∴ Total letters in words by Ankita can be either 11 or 12.
From (4): Rishabh should write words with at least 11 letters.
⇒ ‘obliq’ and ‘nerve’ are written by Akanksha.
If Ankita writes the word ‘travel’ total letters for her would be 12 and Rishabh would have written ‘mango’ and ‘queen’ with total 10 characters. This is not possible.
∴ Rishabh will write the word ‘travel’ while ‘mango’ or ‘queen’ can be written by either Ankita or Rishabh.
From (5): Since not more than 2 players have same score, hence, Ankita writes ‘mango’ while Rishabh writes ‘queen’
Hence, option (b).

If ELEPHANTS was the first word to be placed on the board, who among the following could not be the second person to play?
- (a)
Akanksha
- (b)
Rishabh
- (c)
Ankita
- (d)
Cannot be determined
Answer: Option A
Explanation :
Consider the solutions to first question of this set.
If elephants is the first word, then neither ‘obliq’ nor ‘nerve’ can be the second word.
∴ Akanksha cannot be the 2nd player.
Hence, option (a).

If Akanksha played the first word, who would have played the last word?
- (a)
Ankita
- (b)
Rishabh
- (c)
Kajal
- (d)
Akanksha cannot start the game
Answer: Option D
Explanation :
Case 1: If Akanksha writes the first word ‘obliq’, then she cannot write ‘nerve’ before Rishabh has written both his words.
⇒ Akanksha cannot start with ‘obliq’.
Case 2: If Akanksha writes the first word ‘nerve’, then she cannot write ‘obliq’ before Rishabh has written both his words.
⇒ Akanksha cannot start with ‘nerve’.
∴ Akanksha cannot be the first player to write her words.
Hence, option (d).

Which of the following words could not have been the first word to be placed on the board?
- (a)
PEN
- (b)
MANGO
- (c)
NERVE
- (d)
Both PEN and NERVE
Answer: Option D
Explanation :
Akanksha cannot write ‘nerve’ as the first word as mentioned in the previous question.
If ‘pen’ is the first word to be written, then ‘elephants’ has to be the 2nd word to be written which is not possible. Kajal cannot write both her words back to back.
Hence, option (d).
Workspace:
If Ankita played the first word, what would be the last word to be placed on the board?
- (a)
OBLIQ
- (b)
PEN
- (c)
NERVE
- (d)
All of these
Answer: Option D
Explanation :
Case 1: Ankita plays the first word as ‘mango’, then Rishabh has to be write ‘queen’.
∴ The last word to be written can be ‘pen’, ‘nerve’ or ‘obliq’.

Answer the next 5 questions based on the information given below.
Election for legislative assemobly were held in 7 major states in India. For a party to form government it needs to win at least 50% of the seats any particular state. The winning party also gets to choose the Chief Minister of the state.
In case a single party is not able to win at least 50% of the seats, parties upto a maximum of 3 can enter into a coalition and form the government if the coalition together wins at least 50% seats. In a coalition, the largest party in terms of seats gets to elect the Chief Minister of the state. Since the elections are being held simultaneously, if parties get into a coalition in a state, they must form coalition is other states as well.
The table below provides the percentage of seats won by each of the 6 parties in the given 7 states.
Which party elected the Chief Minister of RJ?
- (a)
DJR
- (b)
NOC
- (c)
PJB
- (d)
Cannot be determined
Answer: Option C
Explanation :
We can see than no party can single handed form government in any of the states. Hence, each state will have a coalition government.
Let us start with MP:
Though PSB won highest % of seats but since it does not have any chief minister, hence PSB will not be the part of winning coalition in MP.
Now, PJB and PDT have to be part of the winning coalition else sum of seats of 3 parties will not reach the 50% mark. They will still require one more party to reach the 50% mark.
The 3rd party in this coalition can be any one of NOC, DJR or PDT.
Since PJB and PDT form a coalition in MP, they will be in coalition in all the other states as well.
Let us now look at KA:
If PSB is part of winning coalition it can only be with DJR, but since PSB does not have any chief minister, this is not possible. Hence, the winning coalition is that of PJB, PDT and one other party. This 3rd party has to be DJR for the coalition to reach 50% mark.
∴ One of the coalition in all states is PJB + DJR + PDT.
Let us look at UP now:
The coalition of PJB + DJR + PDT does not reach 50% marks and hence cannot form the government.
∴ The government would be formed by the other coalition and to reach 50% marks all the remaining 3 parties must form the coalition.
∴ The other coalition in all states is NOC + PAA + PSB.
Now let us check which party elects the chief minister in each of the states.
In UP, of the winning coalition, PAA is the largest party and hence will form the government.
In AP, of the winning coalition, DJR is the largest party and hence will form the government.
In KA, of the winning coalition, PDT is the largest party and hence will form the government.
In HP, of the winning coalition, NOC is the largest party and hence will form the government.
In BH, of the winning coalition, PAA is the largest party and hence will form the government.
Now, PDT should have 2 chief ministers. This is possible only if PDT elects the chief minister for MP.
Since, PJB should have 1 chief minister, the only possibility is that it elects the chief minister of RJ.
Hence, option (c).
Workspace:
PAA elected the Chief Minister of which 2 states?
- (a)
BH and HP
- (b)
BH and AP
- (c)
UP and AP
- (d)
None of these

- (a)
HP
- (b)
PJB
- (c)
NOC
- (d)
Cannot be determined
Answer: Option B
Explanation :
Consider the solution to first question of this set.
PJB won only 2% seats in KA and was still part of the winning coalition.
Hence, option (b).
Workspace:
What is the least percentage of seats won by a party in any of the states and it still elected the chief minister?
Answer: 19
Explanation :
Consider the solution to first question of this set.
PJB won 19% seats in RJ and still elected the chief minister.
Hence, 19.
Workspace:
