Answer the next 5 questions based on the information given below.
On a particular day, twelve patients visited a dental clinic. The patients consulted three different doctors: Paras, Rohit and Shushant. Each doctor consulted same number of patients. All patients entered the clinic at the start of the day and left immediately at the end of their respective consultation. Each doctor consulted only one patient at a time, and the time taken to consult one patient ranged from 6 to 10 minutes for Paras, 11 to 15 minutes for Rohit, and 16 to 20 minutes for Sushant. The doctors consulted customers without delay unless they were already consulting another patient. The total time spent by each customer in the clinic is provided below in alphabetical order.
Who among the following was consulted by Paras?
- (a)
Karan
- (b)
Gautam
- (c)
Ekta
- (d)
Bhanu
Answer: Option C
Explanation :
Let us arrange all patients in increasing order of time spent at the clinic
Checking for 1st patient of the three doctors:
Paras: The first patient for Paras must have been in the clinic for 6-10 minutes. This is only possible when Dheeraj was his first patient.
Rohit: The first patient for Rohit must have been in the clinic for 11-15 minutes. Therefore Karan or Lokesh could be his first patient.
Shushant: The first patient for Shushant must have been in the clinic for 16-20 minutes. This is only possible when Charu was his first patient.
Checking for 2nd patient of the three doctors:
Paras: Since Dheeraj spent 8 minutes in the clinic, the second patient for Paras must have spent at least (8 + 6 =) 14 minutes and at most (8 + 10 =) 18 minutes. This is only possible when Lokesh was his second patient.
⇒ Karan is the first patient for Rohit
Rohit: Since Karan spent 12 minutes in the clinic, the second patient for Rohit must have spent at least (12 + 11 =) 23 minutes and at most (12 + 15 =) 27 minutes. This is only possible when Ishan was his second patient.
Shushant: Since Charu spent 17 minutes in the clinic, the second patient for Shushant must have spent at least (17 + 16 =) 33 minutes and at most (17 + 20 =) 37 minutes. This is possible when one of Bhanu or Gautam was his second patient.
Checking for 3rd patient of the three doctors:
Paras: Since Lokesh spent 14 minutes in the clinic, the third patient for Paras must have spent at least (14 + 6 =) 20 minutes and at most (14 + 10 =) 24 minutes. This is only possible when Hardik was his third patient.
Rohit: Since Ishan spent 23 minutes in the clinic, the third patient for Rohit must have spent at least (23 + 11 =) 34 minutes and at most (23 + 15 =) 38 minutes. This is only possible when Bhanu was his third patient.
⇒ Shushant’s second patient is Gautam
Shushant:Since Gautam spent 33 minutes in the clinic, the third patient for Shushant must have spent at least (33 + 16 =) 49 minutes and at most (33 + 20 =) 53 minutes. This is possible when Jitesh or Aman was his third patient.
Checking for 4th patient of the three doctors:
Paras: Since Hardik spent 21 minutes in the clinic, the fourth patient for Paras must have spent at least (21 + 6 =) 27 minutes and at most (21 + 10 =) 31 minutes. This is only possible when Ekta was his fourth patient.
Rohit: Since Bhanu spent 37 minutes in the clinic, the fourth patient for Rohit must have spent at least (37 + 11 =) 48 minutes and at most (37 + 15 =) 52 minutes. This is possible when Jitesh or Aman was his fourth patient.
Shushant: This leaves us with Faiz who will be the fourth patient for Shushant.
Since Faize is the fourth patient for Shushant, the third patient must have spent at least (70 – 20 =) 50 minutes and at most (70 – 16 =) 54 minutes in the clinic.
⇒ Third patient for Shushant can only be Aman while Jitesh is fourth patient for Rohit.
Paras consulted Ekta.
Hence, option (c).

Answer the next 4 questions based on the information given below.
On a particular day, six persons — Achal, Vikas, Harshit, Prakash, Inder and Kunal — visited a cafe, each at a different time. Further, each of the six persons had a different dish among Sandwich, Falafel, Brownie, Momos, Cheese Balls and Burger, at the cafe.
The following information is known about the order in which the six persons visited the cafe and the dishes that they had:
- Vikas, who had Falafel, visited the cafe immediately before the person who had Sandwich.
- The person who had Momos visited the cafe immediately before the person who had Cheese Balls.
- The person who was the first to visit the cafe had neither a Sandwich nor Momos, while the person who was the last to visit did not have Cheese Balls.
- Prakash, who did not have Cheese Balls, visited the cafe immediately after Inder but both of them visited the cafe before Vikas.
- Achal, who did not have a Sandwich, visited the cafe immediately before Harshit, who had Brownie.
Who was the last person to visit the cafe?
- (a)
Harshit
- (b)
Kunal
- (c)
Prakash
- (d)
Inder
Answer: Option B
Explanation :
From (1) and (4) we can say than Vikas must be 3rd, 4th or 5th person to visit the café.
Case 1: If Vikas is 3rd to visit the café, then Inder and Prakash must be 1st and 2nd respectively to visit the café.
From (5): Achal and Harshit must be 5th and 6th to visit the café.
From (2): Inder must have had Momos while Prakash must have had Cheese Balls, but this violates condition (1) and (4). Hence this case is rejected.
Case 2: If Vikas is 4th to visit the café, the one who had sandwich would be 5th to visit the case.
Inder and Prakash must have visited before Vikas. So now, it would not be possible to arrange Achal and Harshit since Achal does not order sandwich.m
Hence, this case is also rejected.
Case 3: If Vikas is 5th to visit the café, the one who had sandwich would be 6th to visit the case.
Inder and Prakash should be one after other while Achal and Harshit must be one after the other.
We have two cases for this.
Case 3 (a): Since momos is had just before cheese balls, this is only possible when Prakash ordered moms and Achal orders cheese balls. [Momos cannot be had by the 1st visitor.]. Also this leaves Kunal who ordered Sandwich.
Case 3 (b): Since momos is had just before cheese balls, this is only possible when Inder ordered moms and Prakash orders cheese balls. But this violates condition (4).
∴ Only Case 3 (a) is possible.
Hence, option (b).
Workspace:
How many persons visited the cafe before Harshit?
- (a)
0
- (b)
1
- (c)
2
- (d)
More than 2

Consider the solution for the first question of this set.
Harshit visited before the person who had falafel and he ordered a brownie.
Hence, option (c).
